Vernallis' theory is that continuity editing is broken to draw attention to what’s on screen. Edits are obvious and are used as special effects, along with several jump cuts used. There may be multiple base tracks in a music video, but are generally used to give the video structure, along with the camera moving in time with the music.
An example of using jump cuts and slow motion would be Set Me Free by Diplo. I found that the music video, itself, used a lot of those two effects to make the video come across as more interesting.
A music video I found really great in terms of portraying special effects was Headsplitter by Getter. I found the video very creatively interesting, as it used artwork and animation within itself.
A video that used a strong set of base tracks is When We Were Young by Dillon Francis. I found most of the music video was shot within the same location, but the shot of the band is constantly referred back to every now and then.
