Evaluation Question 4

This is the original feedback that we had on our rough cut of our music video. At this point we had a strong start, with people really liking our silhouette shots of Dan. The main focus from this point was to ensure that we actually completed the editing on the full video and also to add some more shots of Beau to add some of the focus to her.

finsihed digipak

Evaluation Question 2

Links I've made are the shadow effect that I've used on the digipak which I darkened to create a more effective look, which links to the shadow shots that we used in our music video which was a really effective look and the shots looked really amazing. The photo I used on my digipak had a shadow in it and so I thought I would use it to my advantage and make a link between my main product and my ancillary texts.
Another link I made was the synergy that we used in the music video which was of the 'Arcane' eye. We used that in our video to establish the artist and so I also used that on my digipak, on both of my artists eyes which I think works well.

Digipak progress (2)

This is my progress since the last lesson so far. I have added in the extra details such as the information on the spine of the cd cover and the copyright information. I have also decided that I wanted to add some extra colour and use the blue that is in our 'eye' symbol that we used as our synergy as I think this adds something extra to the cover and is more interesting than just plain black and white text.

What I now need to add is more images and possibly more effects to make the overall look more interesting. And then I need to focus on creating the inside of the cover and then I will be finished.

53. Photos I plan to use

This is an image I'm considering to use as my background, which I will then blend Dan and Arcanes photo on to. I will be taking the photo myself, however this is just an idea of a photo, which I think will link well with our artists and our music video.

These are just some photos that I have taken from our studio filming videos, that I think would work well for my digipak, and also possibly on my website. However I decided that I wanted to have both the artists, Arcane and Dan Davids on the digipak and so I took some further photos of them both and will choose which photo/photos look best.

These are the four photos, that I've narrowed it down to that I think will work really well with my Digipak.

Short lists of fonts

These are some of the fonts that I find quite interesting and think will work well with my digipak. I think they all in some way suit the genre and the vision that I have for my digipak.
The colours that I plan to use for my digipak are black and white. I plan to make the pictures and background I use for my digipak black and white and use black text. I was originally going to also include the colour blue as this colour was used in our synergy piece that we used to represent our artist Arcane.

These are some examples of album covers/digipaks that are black and white.

48. Ancillary work research ideas (1)

47. Importance of digiaks

Digipaks are a modern approach to CD packaging, and allows inclusion of more information, than a normal CD packaging would. On digipak there is continuity of texts and fonts over all the panels which links them altogether and also links the artist to the digipak. It may also link different individual songs as well on the panels. The digipak will most likely have a theme and portray the artist in a certain way.
The digipak helps to promote the artist, helps to make money for the artist, creates a visual image for the artist, can help to establish the artists genre and helps to build a fan base. This also means its something for the fans to keep.

Pitch-7 Costume (chyna)

In our music video, we plan to have 3 costume changes. We don't want to have too many, but we feel that if we have 3 really good costumes than it will still represent our artist in the right way and reflect to song.

Do's and Don'ts' of design work

There are many different things that you should and should not do, when designing work, and when I complete my ancillary, there are things that I am going to make sure I don't do, as well as things that I should include in order to get good marks.

DO's
  • I need to make sure that I stick to two clear fonts as a maximum. I need to make sure that they complement each other and link well to my artist. They also need to be appropriate to the genre, and the sizing needs to be appropriate.
  • The colours on my ancillary work should be a maximum of three colours, and make sure they go well together and fit the genre correctly. So I wouldn't pick a bright pink colour for my work as it would not match my artist or the genre correctly.
  • I need to ensure that the photos I use are clear and in focus and that they are an appropriate shot-size for the panel. Also that they are generically appropriate.
  • I need to follow the rule of thirds composition.
  • I need to include all the other details, such as the barcode, date, copyright information, title of the album, artist name, record company logo, website and artist website.

DONT's

  • I need to make sure I don't include any unnecessary effects. If I do use any text or image effects they must suit the genre.
  • I must not stretch mages to fit the panels, if the image is not the right image to start with, then don't use it. Stretched images will lose me marks.
  • I must not place text across the face of the artist.
  • I should not just use fonts because I like them.
  • I must not feel that I need to include images on every panel. I need to do my research carefully and follow the conventions of the genre closely. Too many photos will lose marks.

Reflection On Final Edit

On Wednesday, 9th of December, we were able to finally watch our final edit, along with many of the edits from the class. After months of very hard work, we were able to sit back and enjoy the final product, which we feel came out very well. A large majority of what was initially planned was used in the final edit, along with new improvisations that worked along the way. We took advantage of the situations given to us, and our video shows a strong reflection of that.

The video itself showed focus on Dan Davids, as Arcane is seen to be in the background. The 2 shots of him being in it made people completely understand why we chose to keep him in the background, as he is intended to be behind the scenes. Having said that, we felt we could've improved a slight bit by incorporating Arcane in the background of more shots going throughout the video. Nevertheless, the turn out of the video itself was great!

Below is an example response of what we created by another one of our students:

Rough Cut V3

Below is our most updated version of the music video. We're very proud of how the video has come together, however, we're continuing to make minor changes in order to make it reach its potential. Having said that, the video itself is at a standard we want to maintain and improve.

Editing Process (Continued)

So far, we have made very good progress in regards to editing. We are fast approaching the final chorus and outro, as we finish off the 2nd verse. Focusing on different parts of the song with different base shots, we feel, worked really well. This is apparent in the first verse, in contrast to the second.

In addition, we continued the change in use of opacity in the 2nd pre-chorus. We felt the effect was excellent, and we had the footage that would work with a second attempt of it.

We remained excited to see the final product.

Rough Cut Reflection

Rough cut reflection

By our second rough cut we still did not have all the shots we needed so our pace of editing and variety of shots suffered. After showing this rough cut to our teacher we have noticed that our change of costume was too frequent and sudden between the denim jacket and the black shirt. We have decided to film later that day with a more suitable costume which was the bomber jacket and the shirt.

The feedback reflection was mainly positive but it has been brought to our attention that some shots linger for too long as we were missing shots that we can cut to.

Audit my blog

There are still some blogs that I have yet to complete, or that need completing. I have made a list of the blogs that I need to finish and how i'm going to present them. Most of them are to do with my digipak or the final ideas for the video so i'm going to spend a good amount of time thinking about how I want my digipak to look and do drafts of them, in time for making the actual products.
