52. Overview on 'Dos & Don'ts' of Design Work

Below are 'Dos & Don'ts' for creating our design work, which I think is useful to have as a reminder of what boundaries one shouldn't surpass when making their designs.

 Dos:

- Sticking to two clear fonts, maximum. The fonts should compliment each other and be appropriate for the genre.

- Stick to three colours maximum, and under the condition that they go well together, whilst fitting the genre.

- Clear photos that are in focus, along with appropriate shot sizes & are generically appropriate

- Barcode, date, copyright information, title of album, artist name, record company logo, website and artist website music be shown

Don'ts:

- No unnecessary effects. Text/image effects must suit genre.

- No image stretching to fit the panel. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Also, stretching the image loses the quality of the image itself.

- No placement of text across face of the artist, unless it fits the genre/actually comes off as stylistic.

- No use of fonts that do not work, as this will make the design look worse.

- No need to have photos on every panel. The conventions of your genre must be reflected within your piece, therefore, if your genre doesn't have it, yet photos are used (to fill space), your product will look worse.

Having gone through the Dos & Don'ts of the design work, I feel fairly confident that I will be following the rules correctly in order to make my piece very strong. I've stated I will only be sticking with two fonts and three colours to use, and is what I intend to do.
